Alice in Chains has not released new music in well over half a decade. Despite this fact, the last year or so has been big for the hard rock band. American fans have been returning to the group’s classics in large enough numbers to turn some of them into hits, which has happened again this week.

“Nutshell” by Alice in Chains debuts on one Billboard chart this week. The tune enters the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking at No. 24, officially becoming one of the most-streamed tracks in that genre throughout the U.S.

Alice in Chains enjoyed its heyday long before the introduction of streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and others. That means that like so many other acts from decades past, the rockers have not collected nearly as many wins on this list, as well as several others published by Billboard, as some fans might assume. Unlike so many other favorites from another era, Alice in Chains is slowly but steadily adding to its cumulative collection of wins.

“Nutshell” marks Alice in Chains’ second career hit on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart. It was just last year that “Man in the Box” brought the group to the streaming-focused roster for the first time.

In July 2024, “Man in the Box” debuted on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, giving Alice in Chains its first proper streaming smash in the U.S. That cut went on to peak at No. 18, and has now spent six frames somewhere on the 25-spot list.

A year ago, Alice in Chains had never scored a win on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, but this week, the band owns two spaces on the list. “Man in the Box” appears just one slot above “Nutshell” as it rises from No. 24 to No. 23, seemingly pushed north by the incoming win.

As the band doubles its career totals, Alice in Chains becomes one of the several acts to appear on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart with more than one tune this week. The outfit is tied with Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, and Creed with a pair of smashes apiece. Only AC/DC beats all of those names, with just one additional hit at the moment.

Just one of Alice in Chains’ albums appears on a Billboard chart as “Nutshell” debuts. Interestingly, it’s not the full-length that includes “Man in the Box,” nor the EP that features “Nutshell.” The simply-titled Dirt lifts from No. 16 to No. 14 on the current edition of the Top Hard Rock Albums ranking.
